help
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. This tool has no server side at all — the picture is read directly in your browser and never leaves your device. That's also why it's instant.

What's the difference between HSL and HSV?
Both describe a colour by hue, but they measure the rest differently. HSL's lightness runs from black through the pure colour to white, so 50% is the vivid version. HSV's value runs from black to the brightest version of the colour, so 100% value with 100% saturation is the vivid one. HSL is usually easier for picking lighter and darker variants; HSV matches how most colour fields behave.

Why does CMYK look different from what my printer produces?
CMYK here is a straightforward conversion from RGB with no colour profile applied. Real printing depends on the specific inks, paper and profile, so treat these numbers as a starting point rather than a press-ready specification.
help
How is the palette from an image chosen?
By median cut: the colours in the image are treated as a box, repeatedly split along whichever channel varies most, and each final box contributes its average. That's why it finds the distinct colours rather than returning a dozen near-identical shades of whatever fills the most pixels.
help
What does the contrast check tell me?
The ratio between your colour and white or black, using the WCAG formula. Normal-sized text needs at least 4.5:1 to pass AA and 7:1 for AAA; large or bold text can pass AA at 3:1. It's the quickest way to see whether text in this colour will actually be readable.
help
Can I pick a colour from outside the browser?
If your browser supports the native eyedropper, a button appears in Picker mode that lets you sample any pixel on your screen. Where it isn't supported the button stays hidden, since there's no reliable way to do it otherwise.
