Frequently asked questions
Everything worth knowing before you crop an image here.
help
Does cropping reduce quality?
No. Cropping keeps the original pixels of the area you selected — nothing is scaled or resampled. The only quality change would come from the optional Target File Size or a format change, and both are off by default.
help
What if a pixel preset is bigger than my image?
You can't crop out more pixels than the image has, so the box is scaled down to the preset's exact ratio instead, and the panel tells you it happened. If you need the literal pixel size, crop to the ratio here and then scale it up with Resize Image.
help
What's the difference between cropping and resizing?
Cropping cuts away part of the picture and keeps the rest at its original scale. Resizing keeps the whole picture but changes its dimensions. Use both together when you need an exact size from a specific part of a photo.
help
Can I crop to an exact ratio like 16:9?
Yes — pick it from Aspect Ratio and the box stays locked to that shape however you drag it. "Max" then grows it to the largest 16:9 area that fits, and "Center" places it in the middle.
help
What happens to transparency?
It's preserved for PNG and WEBP outputs. Saving as JPG or BMP flattens transparent areas onto white, since those formats have no alpha channel at all.

What's the largest image I can crop?
