What do the compression levels actually do?
Each one downsamples embedded images by a different amount — High is most aggressive, None just cleans up the file structure. Text and vectors stay sharp at every level.

Why did my PDF come back almost exactly the same size?
There was nothing left to shrink — its images were already at or below the target resolution. We never hand back a file bigger than you uploaded, so you get the original unchanged instead.
