Frequently asked questions

Everything worth knowing before you resize an image here.

help

Can I resize several images at once?

Yes. Percentage mode is usually the best fit for a mixed batch, since every image scales relative to its own size — each card shows its own resulting dimensions before you export. Downloads come back bundled in one zip.

help

Will resizing stretch or distort my image?

Not unless you ask it to. With "Lock aspect ratio" on (the default), filling in one side computes the other from the image's own proportions. Unlocking it lets you force an exact width and height, which can distort — and the card badges show you that result before you export, not after.

help

What does Target File Size do?

It caps the output size by searching for the best encoder setting that still fits your budget — quality for JPG and WEBP, palette size for PNG. If an image is already smaller than the target, nothing is degraded to reach it. GIF and BMP have no useful equivalent, so the setting is simply ignored for those outputs.

help

What happens to transparency if I save as JPG?

JPG has no transparency at all, so transparent areas are flattened onto a white background rather than turning black (which is what a naive conversion produces). Choose PNG or WEBP as the output format if you need transparency preserved.

help

Does enlarging an image add detail?

No — scaling up past 100% interpolates pixels that were never captured, so it gets bigger, not sharper. For a better upscale, the dedicated Image Enlarger uses a sharper resampling filter.

help

What's the largest image I can resize?

Images up to 1 GB each are supported, at up to 10000 × 10000 pixels.
